Browser Review: Flock

Hey Everybody,

I have just downloaded a new browser. It is not as slick as Firefox or Safari but it has one killer feature that will make it seem cool. It allows you to have in the sidebar most of the popular social networking sites such as Facebook, Digg, Twitter, YouTube, Pownce, and many more.It has a list of all the sites on there site at flock.com but it will work will most of the popular sites. Also you can set it up with blogging sites such as Blogger, Wordpress and even your own self-hosted blog. I am using the feature to post right now. I would give this browser a 8.5/10 because it is a great way to stay connected to everyone but the side bar does take a lot of space and at times I thought it was a little slow. But overall if you are the person who is constantly checking Twitter, Facebook, and publishing to blogs then you should download this and give it a try!

Enjoy,

TechKid77

A quick note is that it is powered by Mozilla that is the same engine that powers Firefox.

All Apple fans including myself are waiting for the upcoming WWDC 2008 on June 9-12. There are many rumors like always, but some of the major rumors are 3G iPhone and mac Book Pro updates. The 3G iPhone is almost proven by many articles, sources, and other information online.
Apple says its going to be a Land Mark event in more than one way. Hopefully that means many new updates and products. Lets keep our fingers crossed for good updates!

My Top 5 : Customize Software

Well another new blog series known as the Top 5 pretty straight forward my top 5 apps, gadgets etc on whatever topic.

Today's Topic
My Top 5: Customize Software

Usually pertaining to Windows software , just as the mac already has such things as docks etc...

Anyhow lets jump right in

1-5 *1 being the best and so forth*

1- Windows Blinds

The ultimate skinning software developed by the company "Stardock" which has many more customize apps that'll be mentioned in this list. A very great application that costs some $$$ though is much worth it plus a gallery of an online database that expands the possibilities.

2- Object Dock

Now when Mac OSX released the dock and revolutionized the desktop and cleaned up less clutter from the desktop as well as replaced the scattered icons etc. Though on the windows side stardock does it again developing a great customize app that gives a great feel to windows grant it , it's not the osx dock but good enough for windows that has a free and pro version.

3-Firefox Themes

Now yeah browser themes count as customize software and from the old days of ie 5 and 6 firefox, really revolutionized the browser world with it's themes and skins for the browser with yet again a huge online database/gallery.

4- Google Desktop Widgets/etc

Now google has really develop a great Desktop pack of widgets and gadgets packed with tool bars and more to really organize the desktop and pack it with features though it's a little bloated for my taste , but none the less powerful.

5-Log on Studios XP/Vista

Who ever said you can't customize your logon screen yeah even something as basic and sometimes dull log on screen can be pimped out! Now despite the different features etc within vista's and xp version of logon studios the fact of the matter is IT CUSTOMIZES your logon screen and does a awesome job.

*Honorable Customize Apps*

SCRPAper (Screen Paper)- Allows your screen saver to act as a desktop background while working foreground behind windows.

BootSkin- Allow you to customize and change the boot screen of windows.

YodM3d- A Desktop app that allows you to have virtually 4 desktops , virtual desktops that is with a awesome interface. Now a paid app thought there is some older versions out there for free.

Well that concludes it for now all the links will be posted up tommorow
Thanks

Firefox Tips for Speed & Performance

Speed up Firefox. If you have a broadband connection (and most of us do), you can use pipelining to speed up your page loads. This allows Firefox to load multiple things on a page at once, instead of one at a time (by default, it’s optimized for dialup connections). Here’s how:

- Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit enter. Type “network.http” in the filter field, and change the following settings (double-click on them to change them):
- Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”
- Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”
- Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to a number like 30. This will allow it to make 30 requests at once.
- Also, right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0″. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

Limit RAM usage. If Firefox takes up too much memory on your computer, you can limit the amount of RAM it is allowed to us. Again, go to about:config, filter “browser.cache” and select “browser.cache.disk.capacity”. It’s set to 50000, but you can lower it, depending on how much memory you have. Try 15000 if you have between 512MB and 1GB ram.

Reduce RAM usage further for when Firefox is minimized. This setting will move Firefox to your hard drive when you minimize it, taking up much less memory. And there is no noticeable difference in speed when you restore Firefox, so it’s definitely worth a go. Again, go to about:config, right-click anywhere and select New-> Boolean. Name it “config.trim_on_minimize” and set it to TRUE. You have to restart Firefox for these settings to take effect.

Windows XP Key Macros with HotKeyBind

Hot Key Bind is an amazing application for key macros. you can use hot key bind to launch a file, application, or even a specific web site. I find it very useful and easy to use. I think that everybody should use keyboard shortcuts.

Apple Updates the All in one IMac

So just as of recent the Apple store went down and being the geeks we are most jumped at the new I-Mac's conclusion and boy were they right. The All in one i-macs have been upgraded just as the macbook and macbook pro with the "Penryn" Intel Core 2 duo processor. This and a new Nvidia Geforce 8800 GS with 512 MB of Vram has been added to the 24 inch model which now runs at 3.06GHZ! and prices at 2,119$. As of design changes there still the same dazzling i-macs just beefed up hardware and faster specs, mainly these penyryns are the big hit to the i-macs which will show speed increases in overall system and application speeds. The models still stand at two 20 inch models with 2.2 & 2.4 GHZ and now two 24 inch models at 2.8GHZ & the new 3.06GHZ with the new feature of the nvidia card to the apple store. A elegant machine now taken to the next level and with this in mind and with the whole penryn processor migration we're surely hoping to see the future macs such as mini, and possibly the air with these new speedy processor models. So i'll end it with that and a major props to apple on the update and with WWDC coming up who knows whats next....

Search Me!

Ever wanted a fancy alternative to google or Yahoo? Well now there is! Search me! Search Me is a search engine just like google but search me has something that sets it apart from the rest of them. What is that, Cover Flow. Thats right Search me displays the page of the site ur looking in cover flow. It works on Mac, PC, and Linux. It is still in beta but it is still very interesting to use. I think that in the future this site might catch on and some might make it their default search engine over google.

KGB Archive - File Compression

Have you ever had a large file that you wanted to send to someone over the internet and i was going to take days to send, or have you ever wanted to put a large file on a small flash drive? Well now you can with KGB Archive. KGB Archive is very a very strong piece of software. You can choose between lower, low, average, good, extreme, and monumental compression seatings. My results are amazing. I Archived a 2.5Gb .iso file down to 200Mb. The major downside is the time it takes to compress a file. It took me 35 Hours to compress that file on extreme compression and I'm using a 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo. I would definitely recommend a dual core for this application.

KGB Archive can be downloaded here - http://www.kgbarchiver.net/?page=download

Tech-Upgrade Plans: Gear

Tech-Upgrades
New Gear to come

So it's time to upgrade some gear and sell older gear , some stuff i have to sell include

-Keyboards
-Monitors
-Webcam
-Mics
etc...

With that said i do have some gear that needs upgrading either cause of broken hardware or just to upgrade for a geeks sake =)

First off my headset
-Logitech Premium Headset
has a fault cause i can't hear out of the left set so i'm needing to upgrade for better audio quality and another mic

I'm thinking of upgrading to a logitech ultra clear usb headset
that costs around 35 $

this will help alot with the podcast and another thing i'm looking to add to the collection will be a
Podcasting Mic

thinking the samsung roadster models with a base station kit etc for the itunes podcast etc.

So as you use alot of audio gear will be needed for the show and videos

Now moving out of the audio department and into the video -SOFTWARE is something importantly needed primarily ADOBE software including

-PhotoShop
-Premier
-After Effects
-Dreamweaver

Only thing is these Software cost a ton so i'll have to look around for special deals on the net coupons, etc.

As you see alot of stuff is needed and theres more of course but i'll get into that later on in my other blogs if you want to help out at all by donating equipment or money it'll be done via - Paypal

Email Me at kidgurucenter@gmail.com if your intrested in helping out

Thanks for reading

A Garage Band Alternative for Windows?

I had been searching the web for a Garage band alternative for windows when i came upon Mixcraft. I have tried tons of other sound mixers and none of them where very good. I launched Mixcraft and I immediately knew that it was the windows alternative. Mixcraft's interface is almost identical to garage band, and if you have never used garage band you will probaly not notice a big difference. It has over 1500 clips of music for you to use in creating your song. You can also add effects like echo, reverb, distortion, pitch shift, pan, and many others. Unfortunately Mixcraft is $39.99, but if you search on youtube there are other ways of getting the full version that tech world dose not support of take responsibility for.

If you are planning on downloading Mixcraft I would recommend an 2.5GHz Pentium 4 or higher as playing more than 4 or 5 tracks at one can be very processor intensive. If i play 8 tracks st once on my 2.2GHz Core Two duo it uses 80% processor. And if you want all of the clips the application will take up about 85Mb of hard drive space.

Mac gets Hacked first in Contest!

The annual PWN 2 OWN hacking contest is a popular hacking competition. The contestants
are given three laptops to try to hack into a sony Vaio, Fujistu U810, and a Macbook Air. The first day was unsuccessful by all three contestants but the second day Charlie Miller won the $10,000 Prize and a Macbook Air by hacking into it first.
It didn't take much time. Within 2 minutes, he directed the contest's organizers to visit a Web site that contained his exploit code, which then allowed him to seize control of the computer. Miller is best known as one of the researchers who first hacked Apple's iPhone last year. Miller said the weakness is in Safari. The winner of last years competitiontook home the prize by finding a weakness in Quicktime.

Windows Vista SP1 released and working Well

As many of you Windows Vista users may know windows vista Service Pack 1 was released March 18, 2008. Due to many torrent and other downloading sources many users downloaded the update as much as a month early. For those of you that installed the update you will already know that SP1 did not add any new features because it was all code updates. SP1 improved Compatibility, reliability, copy speeds, and hundreds of other minor problems. Many where unhappy due to the fact that SP1 was supposed to come out mid 2007, but was pushed back to early to mid 2008. Overall SP1 was a good update but I personally did not notice any of the change other than the copy speeds. Driver compatibility and reliability are things that you don't really notice as much as they are things you don't really think about.
Microsoft did good on SP1 but hopefully SP2 will be on time and have more features and have more compatibility.

Upgrade for the Mini and I-mac?

As Apple continues the roll down of the updates for the mac ever since the mac pros to the macbook’s can the mini and i-mac be next? Luckily the mini won’t be discontinued but upgraded most likely with the new Penryn processors. As well with the all in one I-mac as the intel processors of memrom line is being phased out, the penryn will be moving in. So as the line continues the news hasn’t stated of any design updates but more speed wise the i-mac could be reaching 3.0 GHZ and as for the mini yet has been talked on that as the size differs from the I-mac but as the little elegant desktop awaits it’s upgrade we’ll have to wait and see. Though not only that but there could be a expandability in ram and hardrive space for the two machines. The upgrades continue from here and on now we have to sit and wait the upgrade is expected this tuesday will the rumors fufill or not we have to see

Also future updates are stated again for the macbook and maybe the mb pro's hopefully design wise around this April. So with that the iphone keynote of the SDK/Enterprise Roadmap we have to see what apple has in store for the upgrades most likely they'll have all machines moved to Penryn by the end of this year and possible updates for the MB air. As far the macrumors and other resources have came through as far will it come through yet again...

Movies on Flash Drives

Movies have traditionally been on disc or on VHS tapes, but what if u could legally put them on your USB flash drive. One company called PortoMedia wants that to become possible by using Kiosks like the Red Box. Chris Armstrong said, “The kiosks will be packed with hard drives that can hold 350 to 5,000 titles. Users then plug in a memory device from the company, enter a PIN code, and buy or rent a movie. When consumers get home, they simply slide the memory device into a dock connected to a TV.” These movies can be played on your PC or TV. The only down side is that you have to buy a dock. The dock is sold in a package for $60. You get 6 Movies, USB Flash drive, and the dock. Another option for users is to pay $160 and get a handheld player with a 1.8-inch hybrid hard drive with 240GB of storage, a dock, and 12 movies.
Portomedia's web sight can be found here.

Purple iPod Nano?

This weekend Circuit city's Ad included a Purple iPod Nano. Apple's current line of iPod nanos come in silver, blue, green, black, pink, and (PRODUCT) RED. This is obviously suggesting that Apple is going to release a Purple iPod. The addition of a purple option to the iPod nano would make the iPod Shuffle lineup a complete subset of the iPod nano colors.

The All in one I-Mac or the All powerful Pro?

Well as you know i'm soon to join the apple family and have my current mind set to an 24 inch i-mac core 2 extreme 2.8 ghz 4gb ram 500 or 750 gb hardrive mac but.... Ya theres a but the question after the total of the imac being around 2,900 do i go for the all in one I-mac or go for a base Mac Pro at 2,700 and add a 500gb hard drive etc for around 2,900. Though the fall back is that with the pro I won't have a monitor as the imac is one, and the apple display would make me fish out another 599$ as i dont wanna use my crt on the beatiful pro though... I can buy like a 20-23 inch for around 250$ +. So i can save bucks on buying a different monitor but i would have to spend money to get a monitor if that makes any sense at all lol. Though with the pro i can get 3rd party ram, drives, etc to max it out toward the future so in the end it kinda equals out or should i get the i-mac then the pro later on. Know that i'm a first time switcher and i don't wanna start out small like i would rather have a powerful machine that can show me the power of osx and a mac though for a switcher the pro would be like the ultimate so i'm thinking i-mac | macbook pro| some old macintoshes like g4 etc | the on to mini or pro like go from there so i get a real feel or i can just get the imac-mb pro- then the pro and rotate from there as you see as time and sponsors grow revenue will. So please I would love to here your feeddback comment or email me at kidgurucenter@gmail.com

Thanks for reading

Tech-Topic : Android

Hello all, well its been awhile since I posted something so I thought I start with something big my introduction to something I do daily on my social network video sites like youtube etc. Called "Tech-Topic" basically I pick a technology topic and talk about this topic in detail etc.

So i'm starting off with Google's release plans of "Android" the SDK (Software Development Kit) OS for mobile/Smart Phones. The target is to make the sdk so widely used and pre-loaded on phones that it creates a "G-Phone" by the os itself. So something definatley to look forward to in the future.

The video below will explain most of it the links and additional notes will be posted below

Remember to rate the blog and if you wanna request a question, video etc you can email me at kidgurucenter@gmail.com

Heres some of the notes i had typed up

Sergey Brin and Steve Horowitz
SDK NOT PHONE
G-Phone Smart OS
Linux Kernel 2.6-Drivers and Security
10mil OpenSourced Devlop Aps
Applications Cycle
Navigation-Save-Proceed-Kill-Proceed-Bac k-kill-restore
System Process-back
Stack
Touch/SmartPhones/Older and Newer models
3G High Graphic
OpenGL
SGL-2D/3D3
Media Network
Surface Manager
free type
sgl lite -data storage
Web Kit - Core-Browser/Safari
Daltic VM-Android Runtime- CPU,Battery
.DEX File-Byte Code/Better Life,Memory
Core Libary -Java- UTILITES
App Framework-Java Lang. Apps
Home-Phone-Browser-Maps-OPENSOURCE
API-Application Programming Interfaces
Location Manager-Maps Current Location
Friends-Proximity-API warner

Input Methods -Different Models
Map View/Web-Render Google- Apps Geo Data
Developers Toolkit-Open Expandable
Building Apps
JAVA-Src-Reference-Assets-Layout etc
XML
Apps EQuality-3rd Party,Default can be replaced

So as you see, the sdk is well in devlopment and you can produce your own apps/programs via Java, and send them in for use of Android. Built with high end graphics and open for devlopment while still built on a tough linux-kernel. Talk of a G-Phone was obselete as google is targeted to make this market by spreading the os across many phones to build a cult of G-Phone. It'll handle older/New/Current models of phones with certain touch and non-touch phone features. So something that has much saving in and investment as well as devlopment towards the future and something to keep your eye on in the years of technology.

GOOGLE'S ANDROID

Enjoy and always thanks for reading/watching

Hoping to Join the Mac Family Soon...

Hoping To Join The Macintosh Family Soon..

Well looking into the future, I'm hoping soon to join the Apple Co. Macintosh Family by upgrading from Windows to OSX , Leopard of course and use a whole new machine known as the mac.
I will be upgrading to the I-Mac 2.8GHZ 24 inch, 2GB RAM (Upgraded to 4 manually) reg-ular standard hardrive + Acessories etc. I can't wait till I make the money for the I-mac to have a powerful desktop to handle my needs and work. After that i'm still planning to gain the full mac experience by moving to other areas such as moving to portables , such as the macbook pro and later for the future the air. I'll be using the software and accessories to get acustomed to the mac like the mighty mouse and keyboard bother wired/wireless also software such as Iwork, Video Editing Software etc.

So I can't wait till I get to experience the macintosh and apple experience as well as software etc and I'll update you on other news on it i just have to manage my budget through the future.

Thanks, KidGuru
